A. Global Single Instance Storage is the process of comparing backups
in any client in any location with those stored in d-stor.
If a file
or file segment already exists, it will NOT be re-sent over the network
nor stored.
d-stor performs global Single Instance Storage by creating
a unique fingerprints of every file as well as file segment.
Fingerprints
are based on content, not other file attributes. Thus identical content
in files with different names or attributes will be identified.
d-stor
can also perform compression for additional data reduction.
