“I
am the IT manager for a pharmaceutical sales company based in the
North West of England. I am responsible for all aspects of IT within
my company, managing a team of five IT support staff and looking
after over 500 users, many of whom are home workers.
I was tasked
with finding a solution that would ensure that our home workers laptops
could be protected in the same way that we protect our servers and
office based workers. We were concerned that although our users backed
up their laptops when they returned to head office that the level of
protection this offered was minimal. A particular problem was our sales
staff, who were most often on the road and whose data was by far the
most valuable.
We looked at a number of solutions before deciding to
implement i-stor. There were a number of factors in this decision
but the most important were;
Ease of deployment. We needed a solution
that could be rolled out rapidly to a large number of users with the
absolute minimum of support. We worked with dso and made i-stor available
as a download off the net and via our intranet. Within a few days all
of our users were installed and up and running.
Secondly, we needed
a solution that could be managed centrally. We configured our data
template to create a set of policies that could be tailored to the
requirements of each users job role. Most importantly it let us centrally
control what was backed up and when which is essential for effective
data management.
Thirdly we needed a solution that required little
end-user intervention and ran as unobtrusively as possible. The automatic
TCP/IP connection discovery, coupled with the local backup functionality
of i-stor is ideally suited to our end users requirements. When the
user is online and the connection is up the backup just runs in the
task bar. If there is no connection the back up runs to a directory
on the HDD and is then transmitted when a connection is detected.
We
believe that i-stor fulfils our requirement exactly and that our
laptop user’s data is now as effectively protected as our
office based staff.” |
